West Fairlee, Vermont

I don't know how my search engine optimization will work, for it's not easy fusilli, but I expect to receive many hits to my blog with the keywords in the title of this post, derived from clicking the random button on Wikipedia. Yes, I sneaked in "easy fusilli," the title of my second-to-last post of 2010. In terms of food, I suppose I could talk about the $1.16 (+ $3) 9" black forest ham pita that I ordered from the UBC Pita Pit today alongside Texas fries and Buffalo, Bula Fiji, Louisiana Sweet, Bombay Pineapple, Kootenay Bear Barbeque, Maui Lime, Sweet Thai, Outback Cajun Barbeque, Outlaw Mexicali, Honey Garlic, and Texas Dry Rub chicken wings from Wings on Granville.

However, like last year, these two places only earn "like" ratings from me at Urbanspoon but not full-scale recommendations due to the lack of independent restaurant eclecticness. Well, I suppose I could've tried its slow-arriving distinctive feature of Bobby Wings from the "House of Pain" after consuming Fiji Blond house beer, but I decided to take the Amazing Race detour of sorts and sip some Jack Daniel's Tennessee whisky every time a friend devoured one of those four-chili pepper wings without consuming the milky antidote. Though I'm not in a position to judge, I don't think the Bobby Wings are any worse than consuming "milk hotdogs," as Kevin Bieksa stated last night to fulfill a monetary obligation.

I can be ridiculously random with my allusions at the best of times not unlike the milk hotdogs incident with Kevin Bieksa last night even when I'm not under any monetary obligation to do so. Then again, similar to clockwork transition from not only offence to defence, but from left wing to right wing in more than just the hockey context, I find that creative expression, both on paper and in general communication, and effective political rhetoric both need powerful connections from one tangential link to another.

And sometimes, I have the monetary obligation to do so, such as a rant today which, building on SSAT analogies in practice questions, expanded into the La Tomatina tomato-throwing festival, the Running of the Bulls, gorings, headshots, political pieings, shoe-throwings in the context of George W. Bush and Eliza Doolittle, the spectacle of plays and musicals, the critical mass of booing and standing ovations, and the power of one or the lack thereof in the context of principal-agent relationships between the military and the head of government.

Somewhere in this extended rant, I discussed constitutional documents, the Magna Carta, and the monetary efficiency of having a tourist-driven monarchy as the head of state while the head of government takes care of real business. I'm glad to see that a former head of government, Paul Martin, will soon be appointed as a companion of the Order of Canada. Scotty Bowman has also been appointed and his Chicago Blackhawks edged out a win against his former Detroit Red Wings team. It was epic, perhaps more so than the Brock Lesnar-Alistair Overeem UFC fight tonight.

Looking at tomorrow, I don't think Team Canada needs to make the game against the United States epic like the New Year's Eve games in the past. It's surprising that the Americans are only playing for pride now. While I wouldn't specifically instruct Team Canada to throw the game, I don't think it's necessary to risk injury by blocking shots in reckless positions, delivering bone-crunching bodychecks, and engaging in any altercations. I'm sorry if that goes against the blue-collar values of the former mining town of West Fairlee, Vermont, but it's better in the long term to take a laid back easy fusilli attitude to this essentially exhibition match-up.
